Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was born in Glen Ellyn in Illinois and spent her childhood in Chicago. Amy lived in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, until she was in junior college. Her family also resided in the Middle East, where her parents, Bob (and Barb) taught at American School. Amy has two sisters, Betsy and Lori, along with a brother Joe. Amy has traveled across Europe as a family member and also independently. They both taught and were able to go camping and travel together every summer due to this. In reality, they've spent time camping in every state other than Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda in 1994 following the war in order to help with relief efforts. Amy was a gifted artist from the beginning by participating in school productions and winning writing contests. She was an athlete of great potential in high school and participated in the first ever 3200 meter relay in Illinois girls track. After college, she suffered an injury, she returned to the theater and performed in a variety on stage beginning with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" as well as directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy was a Knox College student from Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with a B.A. East Asian history with a concentration in Theater. After graduating, she moved to Chicago where she studied Improv at the Improv Olympic. She also took acting classes at The Actor's Center. Shortly after graduation, she took on a job as a contract actress on the soap show Another World (1964). She was nominated for an Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in the category of Daytime Drama Series". Her most memorable roles are those played by strong women, including Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and Tom Berenger in Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler as her husband and bassist for Les Savy Fav. She is also the owner of Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and is employed as a part-owner. Amy continues to pursue distinct and varied roles in the world of film.
